The Junos (mockingly known as Canadian Grammys) have enthralled the fans by announcing the nominees for 2016 edition. The Canadian heartthrobs, who’ve dominated the music charts at home and abroad since quite a many months are leading the race!
The Weeknd who had a breakout year, leaded the pack with highest nominations, the number being whooping seven. The Toronto R&B star’s nominations included artist and songwriter of the year, as well as album of the year for “Beauty Behind The Madness”. Singer Abel Tesfaye was also among the lead contenders for The Grammy Awards being handed out in Los Angeles in Feb 15.
Toronto rapper Drake and pop sensation, famed “Baby” star Justin Bieber weren’t far behind who got five nominations each.
Newcomers Alessia Cara and digital video sensation Shawn Mendes, who stole people’s heart and shot to fame just last year, bagged four nominations each.
Other top nominees were singer-songwriter City and Colour, pop troupe Walk Off The Earth, songwriter Tobias Jesso Jr. and music legend Buffy Sainte-Marie.
The 2016 Juno Awards will be taking place at Calgary, with a week of JunoFest Celebrations from March 28 to April 3. The 45th annual Juno Awards broadcast would be taking place on Sunday, April 3 at the Scotiabank Saddledome. The televised ceremony will also include a heartfelt tribute to singer-songwriter Burton Cummings, who will also be inducted into the Canadian Music Hall Of Fame for his solo music career.
